The Altimo Foundation

Altimo, an international $16 bn telecoms investment group, establishes the Altimo Foundation to promote mutually enriching cooperation between cultures and civilizations of the West and the East enabling emerging markets’ communities to lead higher social values and better quality of life.

 

Purpose

 

Altimo’s strategy is two-fold: to develop new investment projects in the emerging telecoms markets of Asia, while seeking strategic cooperation with the best-performing European telecoms operators. Born in Russia, in between the East and the West, Altimo is equally committed to both grand civilizations of the humanity.

 

Altimo is constantly performing a number of social and cultural projects in order to link the two worlds, according to the company’s Corporate Responsibility Strategy. Establishing Altimo Foundation as an umbrella organization for such projects, both current and future, will enable Altimo to streamline the related efforts and improve the efficiency of Altimo’s international corporate social responsibility activities.

Technology

 

Altimo Foundation will be established and registered in the UK under the name of Altimo Foundation and will be based in Altimo international headquarters office in London.

 

The Foundation will be leading social sponsorship and research projects in the field of culture, science, education, healthcare and sports around the markets where Altimo operates or plans to establish its presence. The overall number of projects envisaged by Altimo lies within 10-15 yearly, with the total budget of over $5 million.

 

The organization will be led by the Chairman. In March 2008 Mike Moore, former prime-minister of New Zealand and former Director General of the WTO agreed to chair the Altimo Foundation.

 

The Chairman will be the official spokesperson for the Foundation and will be acting on its behalf internationally to add publicity to and enhance Altimo Foundation’s activities.

 

The day-to-day operations of the Foundation will be the responsibility of the organization’s management team composed by Altimo and led by CEO of the Foundation.

 

The organization’s Board of Trustees will be set up in Q2, 2008 and would be composed of 4-6 most prominent world-top figures from social and cultural spheres. The Board will be chaired by the Chairman of the Foundation.

The Project Schedule will be compiled by the CEO and approved of by the Chairman yearly no later than 01 November, and then revised quarterly by the Chairman and the Board of Trustees.

A wide range of partnerships, including those with national authorities and non-governmental organizations,  academic institutions and research centers will be developed.

2007 Outlook

 

Altimo implements regular projects in science, education, culture and sports. In 2007 alone, the following projects were successfully realized and widely publicized:

• Sponsorship of the Stockholm Baltic Sea Festival Opening;
• Organization of the Vietnam National Water Puppet Theatre trip to Europe;
• Sponsorship of the Stockholm Open Tennis Tournament;
• Altimo Index research project in cooperation with Cambridge Univ. and London Business School;
• Sponsorship of the Modern Vietnamese Arts Exhibition in Moscow;
• Sponsorship of the Russia Today Exhibition in Jakarta during President Putin’s state visit to Indonesia.
